Dr Antony Higginson

Having qualified from Bristol University Medical School in 1991 I progressed through Anaesthetic, Medical and Radiology training in the Midlands to gain my Consultant Certificate in 2001. I am a fellow of the Royal College of Radiologists and a member of the British Society of Gastrointestinal and Abdominal Radiologists (BSGAR).

As well as maintaining skills in general radiology I have subspecialised in imaging and intervention of the gastrointestinal system.

I currently practice as a Consultant in the Imaging department at Queen Alexandra Hospital in Portsmouth and through Radiology Imaging Group have a thriving private practice at several sites throughout Hampshire.

I am registered with the General Medical Council and undergo regular audit and annual appraisal as part of the revalidation process. I keep up to date with all areas of radiology as well as my sub-speciality interest through continuing medical education. All these processes and safeguards enable me to provide the highest quality of service to my patients.

I have particular skills in Ultrasound of the abdomen and as a result we have run courses and training for many other doctors and ultrasound practitioners from all over the UK.

I was appointed as a travelling professor by the Royal College of Radiologists and British Society of Gastrointestinal Radiologists between August 2019 and October 2022.

I have also acquired an extensive experience of bariatric radiology including the assessment and adjustment of laparoscopic bands.

We are involved in the latest up to date trials within abdominal imaging and training of the next generation of radiologists.

In addition my expertise has been used in both National and European roles.

  • Previously a co-opted member of the Royal College of radiology audit committee leading a national audit on acute abdominal emergency CT.
  • Lead member of Royal College of Radiologists Ultrasound Standards Working Party in 2013.
  • Previous Member of national Emergency Laparotomy clinical reference group as a representative of the The Royal College of Radiologists (RCR).
  • Previous Audit officer for the British society of Gastrointestinal and Abdominal Radiologists (BSGAR).
  • Member of a Gastrointestinal Ultrasound (GIUS) task force group formed by the European Federation of Societies for Ultrasound in Medicine and Biology (EFSUMB) to promote the use of bowel ultrasound.

Having qualified from Leicester University Medical School in 1998 I progressed through Surgical and Radiology training in the Midlands to gain my Consultant Certificate in in 2009.

As well as maintaining skills in general radiology I have subspecialized in imaging and intervention of the gastrointestinal system. This extensive training and experience has been supplemented with an overseas fellowship in abdominal imaging and intervention at the Royal Perth Hospital in Western Australia.

I currently practice as a Consultant in the Imaging department at Queen Alexandra Hospital in Portsmouth and through Radiology Imaging Group have a thriving private practice at several sites throughout Hampshire.

Dr Chris Ball

I qualified from Brighton and Sussex University Medical School in 2010 and progressed through Radiology training in Wessex and London to gain my Consultant Certificate in 2017. I work for the NHS as a Consultant Radiologist at Queen Alexandra Hospital, Portsmouth and privately through Radiology Imaging Group throughout Hampshire and West Sussex with a subspecialist interest in gastrointestinal imaging and intervention.

I report not only general diagnostic radiology scans and investigations but I also have subspecialty interests in all aspects of abdominal radiology. In particular, I have subspecialist skills in gastrointestinal and hepatobiliary diagnostics including the use of ultrasound, CT and MRI with non-vascular intervention including biliary drainage and stenting, colonic stenting and gastrostomy insertion.

I am a fellow of the Royal College of Radiologists and am registered with the General Medical Council. I am also a member of the British Society of Gastrointestinal and Abdominal Radiologists (BSGAR) and the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) and regularly attend conferences and accredited courses in order to keep at the forefront of innovation and development in my area of expertise.
